At The Braiding Place, braiding is more than a hairstyle. It's a skill shaped by culture, family and years of experience.

Based in South Auckland, The Braiding Place is a specialist braiding studio offering beautiful, carefully crafted styles in a friendly and welcoming environment. From box braids and cornrows to boho braids and crochet styles, every appointment brings together experience, attention to detail and a genuine love for braiding.

OUR STORY

My journey with braiding began when I was just seven years old, growing up in Uganda, East Africa.

Braiding was part of everyday life and an important part of the culture I grew up with. I learned from a young age, and even as a child, people would come to me to have their hair braided. They paid me for my work, and what started as something I enjoyed became a skill I've carried with me throughout my life.

In 2009, I moved from Uganda to New Zealand, bringing my love for braiding with me.

Aotearoa has been my home ever since. I'm also a proud mum of four, and I'm now teaching my daughter to braid, passing on the skills and knowledge that have been part of my life since childhood.

It's something very special to be able to share with the next generation.

At The Braiding Place, we offer a range of braiding styles, including box braids, boho braids, cornrows and crochet hairstyles.

We also offer synthetic hair extensions in a selection of colours, with additional colours and styles available to order where possible.

You're welcome to discuss your preferred style, length and colour before your appointment so we can help you plan the look you're after.

Got my hair braided for HYROX so it wouldn’t get in the way during the race and it was PERFECT. I booked in advance and Mary was super responsive and easy to communicate with. The braids were neat, secure, and held up through all the sweat and movement. I took it out after 4 days only because I needed a proper hair wash but it was still fully intact and could’ve lasted longer. I even got so many compliments from random people at the event! So well done and comfy too. Highly recommend!
